Well, so far you got corruption going on in Pharr, Donna, and now Mission. The question everyone wants to know is WHY? Politics is not made for the poor. Imagine, you are a smart person and you think you can run for office. The only thing is that you don't have any money.
So you go out and get donations from here and there. Then you run your campaign and win the election. Your in office and your smiling from ear to ear. All of a sudden your phone rings. The voice on the other end says that a certain contract is coming up. And that they want the contract.
Your smile turns to concern. You ask who is this? They tell you they were one of the people that gave you a huge donation for your campaign. And without that type of money you would have never gotten elected. So what do you do?
What if it's your boss giving you huge donations. And in return they want contracts? What do you do? What if your boss wants you to vote republican. But you live in a democratic district. What do you do?
We all know it takes money to run an election. Mail out flyers, corrugated signs big and small ones. Phone banks. etc, etc. By the time you know it you have spent $30,000.
You think people are going to give away money because they believe you will do whats right? Maybe, but how many of those people are out there? It all comes back to one question. What's in it for me?
I'll give you a donation but what's in it for me? I'll vote for you getting the contract but what's in it for me? I'll vote for a certain item on the agenda but what's in it for me?
I'll make a call so a certain person could get a job with the city or school, but what's in it for me?
Unless you have your own money. And don't owe anyone anything. I don't see a way out. Do you?
