The UTPA Disadvantage

So your thinking about going to college. And you make under $25,000 a year. Well, looks like you can go to UTPA for Free. Right? How many kids go to UTPA? I'll take a guess maybe what 18,000 students. And you mean to tell me that only 500 got into the UTPAdvantage program?

The university created the program in response to rising tuition costs across the state. Last year 500 students qualified for the program, and an additional 1,000 students are expected to qualify under the new threshold, according to the university.

The program is funded through student tuition, he said. The university expects to have about $1 million available for the free tuition program for the 2008-09 school year, which is about $250,000 more than this year, Morley said.

So the other 17,500 students could not be in this program because they make over $25,000 a year? Yeah right! Seems to me that there is a lot of red tape.

So who do you blame? Well, since Aaron Pena is taking credit for bringing down the wellness center and raising the kids tuition for college. Let's blame him. Maybe he is also the one that will take credit for bringing down UTPA to Edinburg.

The program is a great thing for the community. But if your only going to allow 500 out of 18,000 kids. There is a problem. So, get on the phone and call your local gutless state rep. And ask him what's going on.

I'm sure he will tell you that he has nothing to do with the way the system is over at UTPA. Typical Aaron "Big Nose" Pena. He loves to take credit for things he had nothing to do with. Now, when there is a problem and you want answers. Aaron is know where to be found.
