Let's Not Forget The Real Reason Aaron Pena is Running For Re-Election

This clip was written back in 2005.

The Texas Legislature gives itself a huge retirement pension and, the next day, cuts retirement benefits for teachers. Welcome to a Republican-ruled state.

Retiring solons will now get $36,000 a year after 12 years in the Lege. The job pays $7,200 a year and requires 140 days of work once every other year. Welcome to a Republican-dominated state.

As you can see a st rep makes 7,200 a year. But look at the retirement. This was two years ago. The retirement in 2007 for a st. rep is about $50,000 and soon to go up.

This is the only reason Aaron Pena is running for re election. He needs that $50,000 a year for the rest of his life. We have even caught him co authoring bills to raise the pension for dist. judges. But if the pay for a dist judge rises. So does the retirement for a st. rep.

Merry Christmas!
