Jay Johnson-Castro on the first Border Wall-k
BROWNSVILLE, July 5 - The Texas Border Coalition has endorsed Hands Across El Rio, a grassroots protest against the federal government’s plan to build a wall along the Texas-Mexico border.
TBC Chairman and Eagle Pass Mayor Chad Foster announced the itinerary for the 17-day event at the group’s meeting in Brownsville last Thursday. Foster got an immediate positive response from Robert Andrade, an assistant to El Paso Mayor John Cook, who was participating via teleconference.
“The intention of this effort is to show a coordinated effort from all of the (border) communities to show our unity with regards to not building a fence or a wall. This is also an opportunity to really show that we are together,” Andrade told the meeting.
