Edinburg News has just received an email about Carmen Gonzalez and ECISD Superintendent Gilbert Garza trying to cut corners and save the school district some money. Your kids safety is in jeopardy. Here is part of the email we got.
The superintendent is in the process of eliminating our ECISD Police Department Patrol. That means after 5 pm everyday no one will be patrolling our district campuses.
If your child is lost at school or if your child has not gotten home, then you will need to call your city or county police department. I have been in several situations where my child has not gotten home at the right time.
And all I have to do is call the ECISD Police Department, they radio transportation to see if my son is still on the bus and every single time I have called he is on the late bus on his way. Now I will have to call the Sheriff's Office (WHO I KNOW FOR A FACT HAS NO TYPE OF RADIO COMMUNICATION WITH ANYBODY FROM THE ECISD POLICE DEPARTMENT OR TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT)
To only be put on a list of calls that most of the time range about 50-100 calls per 8 Hour Shift and sit and wait for them to arrive at my house 3 hours later or maybe even longer. I was able to contact a Administrator from the ECISD Police Department who is strictly against this move. I quote
"THIS MOVE IS BEING DONE BY OUR ADMINISTRATION STAFF WHO HAVE NO TYPE OF POLICE EXPERIENCE AND HAVE REQUESTED NO INPUT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, WE AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT DO NOT FEEL THIS MOVE IS SAFE FOR OUR CHILDREN AND ARE STRICKLY AGAINST THIS MOVE". "THEY THINK IF THE MCALLEN ISD CAN HAVE NO PATROL AT NIGHT THEN WE CAN DO THE SAME THING HERE,
THE ONLY THING IS, WE HAVE SCHOOLS THAT BELONG TO 3 DIFFERENT POLICE DEPARTMENTS". "ALL OF OUR OUTSIDE SCHOOLS BELONG TO THE SHERIFF DEPARTMENT, THE INNER CITY SCHOOLS BELONG TO EDINBURG POLICE AND MAGEE AND CAVAZOS ELEMENTARY BELONG TO MCALLEN POLICE".
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SOMEONE IS ROBBED OR POSSIBLY KILLED LIKE THAT POOR LITTLE GIRL FROM P.S.J.A. NORTH BECAUSE NO POLICE OR ADULT SUPERVISION WERE NOT AROUND. IF YOU WERE A PARENT LIKE ME, YOU WOULD BE FRIGHTENED TO THINK THAT OUR SUPERINTENDENT OF OUR DISTRICT is TRYING TO CONVINCE OUR SCHOOL BOARD THAT THIS IS BEING DONE TO SAVE MONEY FOR THE DISTRICT.
I am a mother of two kids that attend ECISD. And I expect all kids attending ECISD to be safe. Even after 5:00 pm. There are extra curricular activities going on. And I know some kids get home late. So Carmen I'm putting all the blame on you.
Why? Cause for one you were the one that wanted to bring this so called superintendent Gilbert Garza in exchange for movement of personal. So fix it! How dare you even consider putting our kids in harms way.
You want to save money? Tell Gilbert Garza to take a pay cut. Because he is NO superintendent. He just happened to be your puppet. Or tell the Palacios to donate some money to the district. They sure did a number not only in the city but also the school. And you want these people back? Yeah right!

I feel the board needs to reconsider terminating Gilbert Garza as ECISD Superintendent. What would be the reason? INCOMPETENCE Carmen is determined to have a bond election this coming Nov. What happens if it fails? Would that be just cause to terminate the Superintendent? Some people at another school district seem to think so.
The move comes after a group of Wimberley residents urged the board in March to fire Strauss for what they said was her emphasis on athletics over academics, missteps in two failed bond votes, unwillingness to listen to those with different points of view and low teacher salaries.
