A measure, perhaps, of shifting political sands could be seen there; State Representative Aaron Peña of Edinburg, a prominent Clinton supporter, could be seen bobbing on the platform behind Mr. Obama. A local newspaper, The Rio Grande Guardian, reached Mr. Peña later, and his explanation of his presence could not be comforting to Mrs. Clinton.
“I will maintain my commitment,” Mr. Peña said. “But it appears to be increasingly evident who is going to win.”
