EDINBURG) – La Joya Mayor Billy Leo, a South Texas icon, longtime community leader, and Democratic activist, today announced his enthusiastic endorsement for Democratic challenger Eddie Saenz in the race for House of Representatives District 40.
“The incumbent supports a Republican leader at the State Capitol who has been in office for nearly 40 years and still hasn’t managed to get the job done,” Mayor Leo said. “It’s time for a fresh voice and a new direction in Austin. That’s why community leaders are uniting behind Eddie Saenz so that the rest of our South Texas delegation can have a full partner in fighting for our families and our needs.”
“Eddie Saenz is running as a Democrat and he will vote as a Democrat to protect our civil rights,” Mayor Leo said. “We have had enough of a typical politician in this office who puts his own pension and personal ambition above the interests of the community.”
