Eddie Saenz To Campaign For South Texas Approval Of Far-Reaching Cancer Cure Fund On November BallotChairman of Edinburg Regional Medical Center Calls
Initiative ‘Investment in a Future of Hope and Human Possibilities’
(EDINBURG) — Community leader, Democratic House challenger, and Edinburg Regional Medical Center Chairman Eddie Saenz today said that he will help lead the effort to pass Proposition 15, the far-reaching initiative on next month’s ballot designed to find a cure for cancer, saying that the disease touches the lives of every Texan, including more than 650,000 Texans.
“This is an investment in a future of hope and human possibilities,” Chairman Saenz said. “At a time when the federal government has cut back on funding for a cure, we have the power to regain the momentum here in Texas and become a national leader in the effort to wipe out this disease.”
The proposal, pushed by State Senator Juan ‘Chuy’ Hinojosa, former State Comptroller John Sharp, and others, calls for a $3 billion investment over the next 10 years to make Texas a center of research into cancer prevention. The legislation putting the measure on the ballot passed the Texas House in May. Saenz’ opponent was the only Democrat to vote against it.
