In reference to the Edinburg School District police being dismantled, parents should be glad that each of our schools will have a police officer in each campus. They will be there for the well being and security of our children.
In addition, if parents are so concerned about their children, where were the parents of the students involved in the Edinburg North incident back in May. Obviously, these kids were out at all hours since the parents were not aware of their children's "extracurricular activities".
In addition, where were the parents of the kids involved at the Freddy Gonzalez incident in June. Parents need to be aware of their children's whereabouts at all time. They need to be more vigilant and involved in their children's lives.
Also, too many parents think that schools are responsible for taking care of their children after school is out for the day. There are many students that are not picked up on time because their parents work. The schools are not daycares. Parents need to make arrangements to pick their children up on time. If their child is involved in after school activities,(mariachi, sports, band, UIL, etc.) the teacher, coach, etc. is there to supervise and does not leave until every child/student is picked up.
Concerned parents and Edinburg News needs to make it to a school board meeting and ask questions and not point the finger to Carmen Gonzalez and Gilbert Garza. I honestly think the school board has to vote to make a major decision like this.
Thanks
What is being said is that our kids are not safe from other kids? Thats why we need patrolling? Have our schools become over run by criminals and are not safe? Though, its important that our schools have police and security, keep in mind that if we as parents are doing our jobs we would not need much security.
But in world that is not perfect, we have gone on with life not knowing whether our kids are in gangs, sneaking out at night to vandalize other peoples property, steal or doing other types of misdeeds.
What we are not being are parents. Edinburg school district is providing police officers and security what they are not providing is a daycare. If they do away with patrol as a parent I am always available for my child. I've been to schools where students do not want to go home after school, they prefer staying after school just to hang around.
Makes one wonder why they don't want to go home. There are students that are not picked up because a parent is working late. If a student a bus rider and does not get home on time transportation should be called. Each bus should have some type of radio/CB system that a bus driver can be contacted.
Administrators are available after school along with teachers and coaches. Students should not stay after school unless they are involved in some type of school activity. As parents we need to take responsibility for our children and not always depend on others.
My child attends school to receive an education, not to cause problems or keep the teacher from teaching. That's what is important. I can do without the Edinburg patrol because I know my child and his/her where about. We try to unload ones responsibility on others and place blame every where else but ourselves.

I have two kids going to ECISD. And safety to me is first priority. The last thing we need is to do nothing until something happens. So get to it!
Gilbert Garza your getting a six figure salary. Show us all why Carmen and co voted for you.
