dinburg has opted for new legal representation, the contract of which will be released this week, according to city officials.

At the City Council meeting on Oct. 6, Mayor Richard Garcia was the first to recommend that the city enter into negotiations with the law firm of Gonzalez and Palacios LLP and the Law Office of Cynthia Contreras Gutierrez for legal representation for the City of Edinburg. The decision now ends current city attorney Ric Gonzalez’s tenure representing the city, but Garcia hinted at employing Gonzalez later for legal issues regarding property and closings.

How can the city attorney prosecute people in the muncipal court when the judge and the city attorney are uncle and nephew?

Another conflice would be Richard Garcia hiring then city manager Wendy Sturgis. Wendy's former husband is a federal prosecutor and had Richard Garcia as opposing council many times.

Lots of Rats in Edinburg. I just hope the FEDS and the Judicial Committee in Austin can come down and raise HELL!

On a vote of 4 to 3, ECISD has a new superintendent. And that person is Rene Gutierrez out of the La Joya School Dist.

I wonder what Carmen promised Ciro? How about naming the first built fine arts building being named after Ciro's son? I'm sure this doesn't sit well with the DA. Carmen is nothing but a woman out to make money. And that money comes from selling school material to the dist.

For the people that have been out of the loop. Carmen is employed by NES (National Education Systems out of San Antonio) She sells to the ECISD and also to La Joya. This is where our new superintendent is coming from.

Eventually she will have to explain her actions to the FEDS. You see, several letters have been sent to the office on McColl Rd. Stay tune! I hope they throw the book at her. Couldn't happen to a finer woman.

Look for Rudy Zamora to get re assigned. Carmen does have to take care of her own.

It's amazing what some people can get away with! Or have they? Only time will tell.

What a Texas town can teach us about health care.

McAllen has another distinction, too: it is one of the most expensive health-care markets in the country. Only Miami—which has much higher labor and living costs—spends more per person on health care. In 2006, Medicare spent fifteen thousand dollars per enrollee here, almost twice the national average. The income per capita is twelve thousand dollars. In other words, Medicare spends three thousand dollars more per person here than the average person earns.
McAllen, Texas, the most expensive town in the most expensive country for health care in the world, seemed a good place to look for some answers.

From the moment I arrived, I asked almost everyone I encountered about McAllen’s health costs—a businessman I met at the five-gate McAllen-Miller International Airport, the desk clerks at the Embassy Suites Hotel, a police-academy cadet at McDonald’s. Most weren’t surprised to hear that McAllen was an outlier.

“Just look around,” the cadet said. “People are not healthy here.” McAllen, with its high poverty rate, has an incidence of heavy drinking sixty per cent higher than the national average. And the Tex-Mex diet has contributed to a thirty-eight-per-cent obesity rate.

One day, I went on rounds with Lester Dyke, a weather-beaten, ranch-owning fifty-three-year-old cardiac surgeon who grew up in Austin, did his surgical training with the Army all over the country, and settled into practice in Hidalgo County. He has not lacked for business: in the past twenty years, he has done some eight thousand heart operations, which exhausts me just thinking about it.

I walked around with him as he checked in on ten or so of his patients who were recuperating at the three hospitals where he operates. It was easy to see what had landed them under his knife. They were nearly all obese or diabetic or both. Many had a family history of heart disease. Few were taking preventive measures, such as cholesterol-lowering drugs, which, studies indicate, would have obviated surgery for up to half of them.

I took a walk through Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, in Edinburg, one of the towns in the McAllen metropolitan area, with Robert Alleyn, a Houston-trained general surgeon who had grown up here and returned home to practice. The hospital campus sprawled across two city blocks, with a series of three- and four-story stucco buildings separated by golfing-green lawns and black asphalt parking lots. He pointed out the sights—the cancer center is over here, the heart center is over there, now we’re coming to the imaging center.

We went inside the surgery building. It was sleek and modern, with recessed lighting, classical music piped into the waiting areas, and nurses moving from patient to patient behind rolling black computer pods. We changed into scrubs and Alleyn took me through the sixteen operating rooms to show me the laparoscopy suite, with its flat-screen video monitors, the hybrid operating room with built-in imaging equipment, the surgical robot for minimally invasive robotic surgery.

I was impressed. The place had virtually all the technology that you’d find at Harvard and Stanford and the Mayo Clinic, and, as I walked through that hospital on a dusty road in South Texas, this struck me as a remarkable thing. Rich towns get the new school buildings, fire trucks, and roads, not to mention the better teachers and police officers and civil engineers. Poor towns don’t. But that rule doesn’t hold for health care.

The surgeon came to McAllen in the mid-nineties, and since then, he said, “the way to practice medicine has changed completely. Before, it was about how to do a good job. Now it is about ‘How much will you benefit?’ ”

Carmen and co are running around saying they have the four votes for her boy Rene Gutierrez. Why does she want this guy so bad? La Joya purchased $75,000 from Carmen's employer last year. That went to $85,000 this year.

Richard Garcia was ready to throughout Rick Gonzalez this past city council meeting. We all know he wants to bring back Daniel Rios. Seems like Richard did not have the votes.

Juan Partida will get challenged by Terry Canales. Watch for Partida to win and win pretty easily.

Two new county courts were created by the legislature this past session. Look for Eddie Trevino to run for one spot and Kelly Rivera for the other.

Carmen Gonzalez and Ciro Trevino were having a meeting with Rene Gutierrez at a local restaurant. Rene Gutierrez is the person who Carmen Gonzalez wants as our new ECISD Superintendent.

She is worried how Ciro Trevino is going to vote, knowing how Ciro's candidate didn't even make it to second base.

One way to get the position of superintendent is to talk bad about the other candidates vying for the same position. You see, at last night's school board meeting, Jacques Trevino was passing out flyer's from the Internet. On these flyer's were a lot of negative publicity on the other candidates who applied for the superintendent position. He decided to looked up these people and see what negative stuff he can distribute at yesterday's meeting.

Also, at yesterday's school board meeting. Jacques Trevino's contract got renewed for one more year. But what else did you expect?

Working on a story where two ECISD teachers were charged with DUI and possession of cocaine. The district decided to put these people on administrative leave with pay, pending the on going investigation. I have learned that these two teachers are back at work teaching your kids.

Two Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District students have been confirmed as having had the H1 N1 virus. Both students were seen by medical officials, treated and cleared to return to school.

Jacques Trevino, attorney for the ECISD, told the Edinburg Review that one student was an elementary student and the other a middle school student. Due to confidentiality laws, the student’s names were not released and no other information revealed.

Why isn't school being suspended? You have an assistant principal that already died! What in the world is going on?

I guess Mr. Trevino doesn't consider this to hazardous to your health. Like I said! He ain't there cause of his brains.

But federal prosecutors argued Tuesday that Espronceda's drug use and lack of U.S. citizenship, as well as divorce proceedings Handy initiated in November, make it unlikely he would show up for future court hearings. They urged the court to keep him in custody pending the resolution of his case.

Should he be convicted, Espronceda would likely lose his legal residency status in this country.

"It would be in his best interest just to leave the country and avoid incarceration," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel C. Rodriguez. "Why not just voluntarily deport yourself?"

Espronceda's attorney - Judith Cantu - maintained, however, that her client had formed his own strong relationships in the community, regardless of his high-profile marriage.

Commissioner Charged With Having Her Maid On County Payroll

McALLEN, April 2 – Hidalgo County Precinct 1 Commissioner Sylvia Handy and three others have been indicted on six counts of harboring aliens for financial gain, U.S. Attorney Tim Johnson announced Thursday.

Three others were indicted with her, including her spouse, Juan Gabriel Espronceda.

Here are the details from the news release:

“A six-count indictment charging Hidalgo County Precinct One Commissioner Sylvia Sue Handy-Espronceda, 52; her spouse, Juan Gabriel Espronceda, 35; Maria De Los Angeles Landa de Hernandez, 27; and Eloisa Andrade Uriegas, 58, with harboring aliens for financial gain was unsealed today.

“The defendants are expected to make their initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Peter Ormsby at 3:00 p.m. today.

“Handy and Espronceda, residents of Weslaco, Texas, were arrested today without incident. Handy and her husband are accused of orchestrating the fraudulent employment by Hidalgo County of Mexican nationals unlawfully in the United States beginning in March 2005.

“The Indictment alleges that the primary object of the offenses was to have Hidalgo County monies pay for Handy and Espronceda’s child care and housekeeping provider, Handy’s servant services, and a $50,000 bill consolidation loan acquired by Handy.

“According to allegations in the indictment, Handy would select a Mexican national who was unlawfully in the United States to be “hired” at her precinct. Handy would then direct Precinct One employees to process a fraudulent job application with the Mexican national’s unlawfully assumed identity.

“Counts one and two allege that the fraudulent hiring was done with the purpose of having Hidalgo County monies pay for Handy and Espronceda’s child care provider/housekeeper who was an undocumented alien they were harboring in their home.

“Counts three and four allege that the fraudulent hiring was done so that an undocumented alien could be harbored and Hidalgo County monies could be used to pay for servant services and a bill consolidation loan Handy had acquired.

“Counts five and six allege the fraudulent hiring was done so that an undocumented alien could be harbored and Hidalgo County monies could be used to pay for Handy’s child care/housekeeping provider and Handy’s bill consolidation loan.

“As a result of Handy’s actions, according to the indictment, Hidalgo County paid in excess of $111,000 in fraudulently acquired salaries.

Palacios' office referred questions to her attorney, Dan Rios

Palacios is inadvertently hurting the democratic process by ruling in cases involving students and families who cannot vote to remove her from office because they live and vote in other precincts, Guerra said Monday.

The attorney general's reply, in the way of many legal decisions, hinged on the meaning and placement of the word "any" in the state's education code, Guerra said Monday. He called the decision wrong and said he was contacting the office to discuss it.

Palacios' office referred questions to her attorney, Dan Rios, who said Palacios was pleased to be vindicated and would continue to administer her truancy court program the way she always has.

Rios said he did not know whether Palacios would attempt to recover the $491,000 Department of Justice grant originally earmarked for her court. County commissioners earlier this month decided to distribute the grant evenly among JP courts, allowing each to hire one or two new staff members to oversee truancy cases.

"I speak for attorneys and for the people of Hidalgo County when I say I hope Mr. Guerra gets over his hang-up about Judge Palacios," Rios said.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

SECTIONA1.AASection 41.0051,Election Code,is repealed.

SECTIONA2.AA(a)Not later than December 31,2009,each of
the following shall choose a uniform election date for its general
election for officers in 2011 and subsequent years:

(1)AAthe governing body of a city that held its general
election for officers in 2007 on a date authorized by Section
41.0051,Election Code;and

(2)AAan independent school district located wholly or
partly in a city described by Subdivision (1)of this subsection.

(b)AAThe governing body of a political subdivision required
to change its election date under this section shall adjust the
terms of office to conform to the new election date.

NALEO to honor Senator Hinojosa and Mayor Ochoa

EDINBURG, March 11 - The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials is making its first ever visit to the Rio Grande Valley later this month to honor two local elected officials.

NALEO will mark the start of its "South Texas swing" beginning on March 25 with a special event honoring state Sen. Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, D-McAllen, and Edinburg Mayor Joe Ochoa for their many years of public service.

Conflict #2 Richard Garcia as a defense attorney in federal court, and also, Wendy Sturgis former husband as the prosecutor. Richard Garcia did at one time hire Wendy to be the edinburg city manager. Well, her former husband happens to be a federal prosecutor. Did Richard Garcia have to go against Wendy's former husband at anytime, since Wendy was employed by the city of edinburg. Answer: Yes!

Were deals cut? Yes! Was it bias? Yes! Richard only gave Wendy a job. How much bias can you get? As Richard Garcia about to take office. Look for even more corruption to happen within the city.

Conflict #3 Gene Espinoza and Rio Grande Steel. You see Gene is employed by Rio Grande Steel. Does Rio Grande Steel have contracts with the city of edinburg? Answer: Yes! Did Gene vote on his employer for contracts with the city? Answer Yes!

Why do I bring this up? Because it's wrong and illegal. Just because there elections are over, doesn't mean the story goes away.

I'm sure your asking why doesn't the school attorney do or say something? Cause he wants to keep his job. If you were the school attorney would you bring this up? You could, but then be out of a job.

Can someone please file a bill to change back the school elections from Nov. back to May. There was no need to change it to begin with. But people on the school board took advantage of this because they knew that an election in May, meant a loss.

I still don't understand why someone would change it. But, if I recall, they were changing it for that one school dist. The the bill was not filed to change all the school dist. in texas.

What To Do If Your Carmen Gonzalez?

Put yourself in Carmen Gonzalez' shoes. Since you needed votes for your past election. You promised Mario Salinas, Maria Luisa Guerra, and Ron Cavazos that they would get to be the next Edinburg Superintendent, in return for there votes. Now, that the position is open what in the world do you do?

You go into executive session and suggest that the new superintendent must have a doctoral degree. Knowing that none of these three have a PH degree. That's one way to wipe your hands clean. Just blame the other school board members that they suggested that the next superintendent must have a Ph degree. But it was Carmen that made the suggestion. These three need to thank Carmen for getting screwed.

Our next edinburg superintendent will come from San Antonio. And he does have a doctoral degree. His wife is also employed with National Education Systems (NES) . The same company Carmen is employed by. Imagine Carmen doing the interview process knowing full well that his wife is also a co worker of Carmen Gonzalez!

EMS wants a loan from the EDC

Back in the '90's EMS got a business loan from the city of edinburg. That loan was never paid back and went into default. Now, these people want another loan from the taxpayers for medical training. But the law states that if you owe the city any money. You can not get another loan from the city unless you pay that other loan back. Your taxpayer money is really hard at work thanks to, Mr. Golden Parachute himself, Ramiro Garza.

Why Only One City Employee With A Golden Parachute?

Out of the thousands of city employees only one has a six month golden parachute clause in his contract. That employee is Ramiro Garza of the EDC. Why is he the only employee to get a golden parachute? What about all the other city employees?

I would think that the city employees would enjoy some sort of stability knowing that if they get fired. They would get six months of pay. The person who constructed this contract is obviously racist toward the other city employees. That person seems to be, mister elephant man himself, Richard Garcia.

You see Richard wants to make sure his friends are accommodated for when they bring business to Edinburg. Which means Ramiro Garza throwing taxpayer money to these so called new businesses. Seems to me that the EDC is all about throwing money to the rich people. And if your a gringo you get even more money thrown your way.

The standard should be if you do it to one city employee, you should do it to all city employees. Not just the one who is going to help your friends out.

And it looks like this idiot is going to by our new mayor of the city. Here is where I come out and say how we need someone to run against him. But I'm not even going to bother. EDINBURG — The Edinburg school district is searching for its fourth superintendent in 10 years.

Gilberto Garza Jr., a longtime Edinburg administrator who stepped into the office when board members jettisoned J.L. Salinas in 2006, told his school board last month that he would retire when his contract expires in June.

Don't really see what you mean about staying above on the political fray. That is the ONLY reason he got to be superintendent. As long as you promise to do this, this and this we will nominate you as the next superintendent. This was led by mrs. corruption herself, Carmen Gonzalez to get rid of Robert Alaniz.

School board members said that they will be sorry to see Garza go.
I can see why! He would do whatever the majority told him to do even if it was illegal.

School board attorney Jacques Treviño will lead the search for the new schools chief, with the hope of having a final choice in place by the end of the school year. And it better not be Maria Luisa Guerra. Jacques Trevino is related to her. Right Jacques?

Members are still deciding whether to change the job description to require the next superintendent to have a doctoral degree as well as 10 years' experience in education administration. Garza did not have a doctorate but made more than $160,000 a year. Only in Edinburg is where you can make $160,000 dollars without a doctoral degree.

They need to change the job description because Maria Luisa still needs a year or so to get her doctoral degree. And that position was promised to our DA if he helped Carmen and Ciro get re elected.

In his office Monday, Garza pointed to just one of the several photographs of his four grandchildren. "Those are my four reasons I'm leaving," he said. "For the rest of my life, you're only going to see me riding my horse, my Jeep or my truck." No, Mr. Garza! You leaving cause your emergency certificate expires in March. And in order to keep you as superintendent, you would have to make an attempt to get your doctoral degree.

I like to make my recommendation: Let's hire Carmen Gonzalez as our next superintendent. She will go from school to school explaining not to beat up your husband when he is having an affair. And she can also talk about how to make money off the district when employed by a company that does business with the district.

You know I have talked to several attorneys and they all say that Carmen and where she works is a conflict of interest. But the only one that matters is the school attorney. And he is not about to say otherwise. He wants to keep his job.

Why did David Torres vote to keep the security guard on ECISD payroll? Remember, when David's kid was in trouble with the law for bringing a gun to school? Well, no charges were filed. And the chief of police back then is the same chief of police we have now. So, it's another case of scratch my back and I will scratch yours. Only in Edinburg!

A Scandal Brewing @ the Edinburg School District.

There seems to be a scandal brewing in the edinburg school district. Channel 4 ran a story about a security guard handcuffing a child. What they didn't tell you was that this incident happened a couple of weeks ago.

Why was it handed to the media AFTER a vote was taken to keep the security guard? Looks like politics played a role in this incident. Not because of what happened to the child, but because how the school board voted. There is now an internal investigation to see who released this tape to the media.

But we already know who it was. It was the school attorney Jacques Trevino on the instruction of Carmen and Omar Palacios. If these people were so concerned about nepotism. Then we would not have the Edinburg chief of police' son working for the district.

Carmen and co have the majority at this time. So blame these idiots. Look for the parents of the child to file a multi million dollar lawsuit against the district. Which means more controversy on how the tape was issued to the media.

Jacques is only doing what he is told. You jump! And Jacques asks how high? We shall see how this internal investigation ends up. I can already tell you it's going to end up. Carmen and co protect there own, including the school attorney. Which I for one think he is a complete idiot.

The family of this child should also file a lawsuit on an individual basis. And that lawsuit should come against Jacques Trevino for being incompetent. Welcome to the edinburg school district. Where corruption is the new standard.

Before I get into today's story, I want to say this about teachers:

Schools are no longer for education. Teachers are now simply test proctors, who are only allowed to teach what is on the test and in the manner it is presented on the test.

Today's story:

Texas students could face new state tests and new graduation requirements under a plan to overhaul the state accountability system in the next two years.

The aim is to create a system that prepares students for either the work force or college, without the need for remediation, said Sen. Florence Shapiro, R-Plano, who chairs the Senate Education Committee.

Legislation to change the system could be introduced next week.

Rep. Rob Eissler, R-The Woodlands, said the plan he and Shapiro are putting forward would do away with the state's current ranking system for schools and districts, which hinges on test scores. Instead, two new tiers would give schools and districts credit for improvement over time and for achievement in areas such as work force readiness, fine arts and physical fitness. Districts would also be evaluated on their financial integrity.

This theory will not work. Please call your local st. rep and ask him to vote NO. Have you noticed it's like the blind leading the blind. People just don't get it.

Aaron Pena? Got his chairmanship last year. What did that mean for you and me? Going to walk with the veterans for how many years already? Which means what? But you got Aaron honoring Abraham Lincoln. Now what is Mr. Lincoln going to do for you and me?

Veronica Gonzales- she was another who second the nomination for this Republican Speaker. The session isn't over it. But what has she done since in office? She promised all of us that she would file legislation to get rid of the Texas Two Step. She forgot.

Congressman Ruben Hinojosa? I can't think of one.

Director of EDC Ramiro Garza- he makes well over one hundred thousand dollars giving taxpayer money away to new businesses. My kid can do that. Not to mention his sixth month golden parachute clause.

Richard Garcia-10 million over budget on the new city hall, the library where you have to park at the Cat Stadium, and the new police dept. which at one time looked like we were living in Reynosa.

Also hear Richard is in love with a puerto rican young lady. Good for you!

Why do I call these people out? Well, look around you! taxes are going up, sales tax is up, college fees are up. Everything is going up accept your paycheck.

CNN is reporting that 700,000 people lost there jobs last month.

There needs to be a change in the way we recall our elected officials. And there also needs to be term limits.

We can abolish the EDC and your sales tax would go down. So call your local state rep. To draw up legislation abolishing the EDC. Our city officials can take over the work load.

New Legislation Filed Says That If Your Considering An Abortion You Must View Your Sonogram

Anti-abortion activists lobbied at the State Capitol Tuesday to show support for proposed legislation that would require a pregnant woman to see an ultrasound of her baby before undergoing an abortion.

The legislation was filed under Senate Bill 182 and House Bill 36.

Hundreds of anti-abortion advocates from across the state rallied in front of the State Capitol to show their support for the bills. Governor Rick Perry, Attorney General Greg Abbott and other elected officials were also on hand to speak to the crowd.

The governor and other GOP leaders, with an eye toward 2010 elections, eagerly touted their opposition to abortion and their support of further restrictions before a crowd that represents a solid activist base in the March Republican primaries next year.

Perry peppered his speech with barbs at Washington, citing President Barack Obama’s likelihood of ending a ban on federal dollars for embryonic stem cells research and his lifting the prohibition against doctors discussing abortions in medical programs that receive American foreign aid.

Protest Set for Tonight's School Board Meeting

EDINBURG — Representatives of a local union plan to protest in front of the Edinburg school district's central office tonight because they claim the district is denying their right to freedom of association.

Representatives of the Southwest Workers' union claim the Edinburg school district has denied them access to campuses to they can make presentations to employees. They also accuse the district of not allowing members to have dues automatically deducted from their paychecks.

The Southwest Workers' Union represents more then 3,000 school district auxiliary employees in San Antonio, Austin and the Rio Grande Valley. Auxiliary employees include custodial, cafeteria, maintenance workers and bus drivers.

The district denies those claims, saying it has allowed all organizations to come onto campuses during different events to talk with employees, said Jacques Treviño, the district's attorney.

Current members already have their dues deducted; the union wanted new employees to have their dues automatically deducted as well, Treviño said, but it's not worth now it because there are only only three pay periods left this school year. But the district said it would set up the payment plans for the following school year, Treviño said.

It's time to fire the school attorney! How in the hell did this guy get hired?

Nobody Showed Up

Kickoff For Noe Garza

Tonight at the Echo Hotel all of the Palacios will be there, to show support for Noe Garza. Others in attendance will include Carmen Gonzalez, Ciro Trevino, and David Torres, and, mister elephant man himself, Richard Garcia. During Noe's speech he will ask the community for forgiveness. To forgive him for having an affair with his current wife and secretary years ago while he was still married.

He will also try to justify the $75,000 he voted to give EMS. He shall say that it is for the safety of the community. The only thing wrong with that is you don't see the police dept. or the fire dept asking for a bailout. EMS is in financial trouble. So why not a bailout from the taxpayers of edinburg.

Another thing he will try to justify is that he has done lots of things for the city. The problem with that is that he hasn't done a damn thing. Just that he voted no for the tax freeze for the disabled and elderly.

He will also try to justify his claim that the best restaurants are in McAllen and not in Edinburg. He will probably say that he never said that. That it was taken out of context. Same ole bs we here on a daily basis.

He will also try to justify why he helped in the contract with Ramiro Garza and that golden parachute they included in his contract.

What he won't discuss is the new restaurant he owns in San Juan and how his current ***** works there. He also won't discuss how he got fired from the city of San Juan for not being a team player. And he wont discuss how he has some shady dealings going on at the waste dept. north of Edinburg.

He shall conclude by saying that a vote for Noe Garza means more Palacios employed within the city. A vote for Noe means more taxpayer money wasted by him and the other idiots.

EMS Gets Another $75,000 Dollars

The city council amended the contract to EMS last night. They included another $75,000 dollars going to Noe Ramon. This is not the first time Ramon asked for money. A couple of months ago he went before the council stating that because of the rise in gas they needed more money.

Last night he told the council that since the economy is in turmoil. More and more people are going to the hospital. So, he basically blamed the economy to get another $75,000.

This is your tax money at work people. The vote was 4 to 1 Ochoa being the only one voting against it. You give donations to these idiots and you get compensated back by taxpayer money.

So if anyone wants a contract with the city of edinburg. All you have to do is donate to there campaign.

The Life Of Noe Garza

Imagine you get home, from a long day, of work. And your husband or wife says that you all need to have a discussion. The husband or wife tells you that their having an affair with their secretary and that they want a divorce.

This is the life of Noe Garza.

His wife used to be his secretary when he was director of public works in Edinburg; there are a lot of stories behind that. Like, dressing and undressing for baseball games in his office, etc, etc. How he left his wife for his secretary; how his wife suffered throughout this ordeal.

And then Noe Garza was FIRED from this dept. because he was found to be working on city time for his personal business.

Currently, Noe Garza had a contract from the city of San Juan. The city finally decided to fire him because Noe was not a team player.

Noe is having his kickoff this coming Thursday at the Echo Hotel. Now, you all have something to talk about.

I can hear him now on the podium during his kickoff. Asking the voters to forgive him for his past and to look at all that he has brought to Edinburg. The problem with that, is that Noe hasn't done a damn thing since he's been in office. Just kissing the Palacios back side.

Are the Edinburg taxpayers wanting the P family back into city govt? Ready or not there coming.

Another topic of conversation should be about this video tape that Noe is on saying that all the best restaurants are in McAllen. This will be going out to all the restaurant owners of Edinburg. Just to see what they think about what an Edinburg city councilman had to say.

Possible Names Being Thrown Around if Ruben Hinojosa Steps Down

Word that Congressman Ruben Hinojosa (D-Mercedes) will likely step down late this spring to either assume the presidency of UT Pan American or to serve as Ambassador to Mexico has brought more likely candidates to replace him out of the woodwork this week.

Armando “Mando” Martinez, (D-Weslaco). Martinez has emerged as an early front runner. A firefighter and paramedic for the city of Weslaco, Martinez was first elected to the Texas House in 2004 and took office in 2005. He is the nephew of the late State Rep. Renato Cuellar. To his disadvantage is that he comes from Waslaco, which isn’t the district’s major population center.

Laura Hinojosa (D-McAllen). While she has the benefit of having ran and won a countywide race, she’s only been in office for two years (before that she was a teacher) at the county level. Too, she works in a position that typically isn’t high on the name recognition ladder. (that of District Clerk). To her advantage, she is the daughter of the sitting Congressman. However, in a hotly contested Democratic primary, she cold find that name recognition won’t help you win without a runoff.

Aaron Pena, Jr., (D-Edinburg). This race would be an interesting choice for Pena. He has the advantage of coming from Edinburg–one of the district’s major population centers–which, combined with his appeal to moderates could help him rise to the top of a field with a lot of Democratic candidates. One disadvantage is that he was a “Craddick D.” While that will matter little to a many people in Valley (especially in Pena’s district), it will matter to others, including financial backers from Central Texas. Plus, it could cost him some important Democratic votes that could go to other candidates.

J. D. Salinas (D-McAllen). Salinas is a political fixture and has his own machine in Hidalgo County. While he was only elected County Judge in 2006, he’s served in public office since he was first elected County Clerk in 1998 at age 29. He, too, has negatives. In addition to being injured by people being upset on his positions related to the border wall, any candidacy he may mount can’t be benefiting from persistent rumors alleging he is going to switch parties to run as a Republican in the special election.

Gus Garcia. Again, Garcia has only held office since 2006, when he defeated Eddie Cisneros Johnson for a seat on the Edinburg City Commission. He reportedly has a fair number of folks who dislike him for one reason or another.

Another possible name these people forgot to include is Joe Ochoa. Look for Ochoa to start making the rounds. If Ochoa were to run for Congress, I don't see him losing. I know Aaron shakes in his shoes when the name Ochoa gets mentioned.

I don't see how Gus Garcia or Aaron Pena could possibly win. Aaron is way to burned within the city of edinburg. His legacy will include being a Craddick D, and screwing Hillary Clinton over. Not to mention all the lies he puts out. And who really knows Gus Garcia? I know him, and I would not vote for him.

As for your stimulus package! I can see how it is losing public approval. You asked for ideas from the congress and now your getting 100's of things included in this stimulus package. I am sure there is a lot of pork for these people's dist. You are the president of the United States. Stick to what got you there. Cut all the pork out of the stimulus package and focus on the task at hand.

The sub prime loans on housing is what got us into this mess. You can continue to throw money at the banks, but if they don't lend then what did you accomplish?

Focus on the housing and the people in foreclosure. Also, focus on people that are in good standings paying there mortgage. Like some sort of tax incentive.

Richard Garcia and the Palacios people over at the EDC gave this textile company 1 million dollars of land for them to come to Edinburg. Now, the textile company wants more. Recently, the EDC took no action on this. But you can be sure Richard will throw more taxpayer money to them.

Richard Garcia and co said no to the DPS corporate office coming to Edinburg. Why? Because a Verizon call center is coming to Edinburg. With people getting laid off and the economy the way it is. You actually think Verizon is still coming? You had a for sure thing with the DPS. But Richard and his brilliant ideas said no.

EMS didn't show up at last city council meeting. From what I understand they need money and lots of it.

With Alma Garza getting kicked out of the courthouse for the new judge taking office. She is now employed at BIC Realty. Now, let's connect the dots. She is employed there, she also sits on the city council, and she also sits on the planning and zoning. Isn't that a conflict?

With a new president over at UTPA. He needs to look into why is Richard Garcia's sister is employed there?

We saw the new police station and how it looked like we were living in Reynosa. We saw the new location for the new library. And how you have to park at the cat stadium.

We also saw how he said NO for the tax freeze on the elderly and disabled.

He gave Ramiro Garza (EDC) a golden parachute clause of six months of pay if he were to get fired.

We saw him hire Nick P's son as assistant city manager.

We saw how he hired Daniel Rios, a partner with Nick's other son, as city attorney.

We saw how he got rid of the Roadrunners to bring in the Coyotes and part owner (Preston Hendrichson). Now, the league under which the Coyotes play have filed bankruptcy.

We saw him hire Wendy Sturgis Smith as city manager. (Now divorced)

So, why does he want to run for mayor?

Now he has Denise Adame Rodriguez as his treasurer. What happened to Joe Chapa? Who is Denise Adame Rodriguez? She is Alma Garza's sister's daughter. And she is married to Roel Rodriguez'(BIC) son.

You can bet your bottom dollar these two will have very good paying jobs within the city if Richard wins.

Richard is running because he got beat. Richard has a huge ego and not to mention the Palacios family.

EDINBURG — The murky future of United League Baseball and the Edinburg Coyotes has gotten even more unclear.

On Monday, United Sports Equities - the company that operates the league - filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Broward County, Fla. The filing states that United Sports Equities has debts of $264,494.55, though some of the debts are disputed.

And this is the same man who wants to run again for Edinburg Mayor? Give me a break! It's not really Richard Garcia running. It's the whole Palacios family pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Democrats Release Names of 64 People That Oppose Tom Craddick For Speaker.

EDINBURG, December 29 - State Rep. Jim Dunnam, D-Waco, released a letter Monday morning containing the signatures of 64 Democrats in the Texas House who say they will not vote for House Speaker Tom Craddick “under any circumstances.”

Ten Democrats, known as “Craddick Ds”, have not signed the letter.

“Today, the fact that there will be a new Speaker for the 81st Texas House of Representatives is established, there being at least 76 House members publicly committed to change,” said Dunnam, chair of the Democratic Caucus in the House.

There are thought to be at least 12 GOP members in the House who want a Republican other than Craddick to preside over the House in the 81st Legislature that starts Jan. 13, 2009. A speaker is elected by the House members at the start of each session. With 150 members, a successful speaker candidate needs at least 76 votes.

Add the 64 Democrats to the 12 Republicans, many of whom have said they want to be speaker, and it appears there is a majority opposed to Craddick, R-Midland. However, Capitol watchers believe some Democrats may have also pledged privately for Craddick. In other words, they may have double pledged. In which case, Craddick may have enough support, from a dozen or so Democrats plus a large majority of Republicans, to ensure he continues speaker for a fourth session.

Reps. René Oliveira, D-Brownsville, Eddie Lucio, D-San Benito, Armando “Mando” Martinez, D-Weslaco, Veronica Gonzales, D-McAllen, and Rep.-elect Rios Ybarra are among the 64 Democrats to have signed the pledge list that opposes Craddick.

Reps. Kino Flores, D-Palmview, Ryan Guillen, D-Rio Grande City, and Aaron Peña, D-Edinburg, have not signed the Democrats’ list. All three hold leadership positions under Craddick. Flores chairs the Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committee. Guillen is vice chair of the powerful Appropriations Committee. Peña is chair of the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee. The three may not retain their leadership positions under another speaker.

The political make-up of the House in the 81st Legislature will be 76 Republicans and 74 Democrats

What is the difference between what the governor of Illinois is doing. Compared to what Aaron Pena is doing. I believe they call it pay to play up in Chicago. Isn't Aaron paying by voting for Craddick and in return receives some outrageous donations. It's the same thing!

Aaron Pena Caught Stealing At Walgreens

Aaron Pena was known as the "mayor of 26th Street" by residents in the Ogden District for his helpfulness in the community, according to testimony before the Chicago Police Board released Wednesday.

City attorneys alleged that Pena went to the Walgreens in the 1900 block of West Cermak Road in August 2007, bought two bags of trail mix and then took a third from the store without paying. Pena was recorded on store security cameras.

Pena testified that he had opened one bag and thought it was so good he wanted a third. But he said that as he walked to the front of the store to pay, he became concerned that he couldn't hear his radio. He said he forgot about the extra bag when he went outside.

It's Time For New Legislation

This is Sunday's edition of Kino Flores. A managerial consultant, Flores stopped identifying his clients and sources of income several years ago on the personal financial statements state officials are required to file.

That's not unusual. The Legislature years ago exempted lawmakers working as consultants from identifying their clients. (Nonlawyers in the Legislature had long envied their colleagues who are lawyers and who don't have to disclose their clients because of lawyer-client privilege.)

It's a system open to abuse or innuendo, particularly for lawmakers, who are paid $600 a month by the state and sometimes have little visible means of making a living.

It's also at the heart of the Flores investigation.

The last time he reported his clients, Flores disclosed that he worked for a McAllen construction company that sometimes has state contracts. He also is paid $3,000 a month by the City of McAllen to collect and audit franchise fees.

So why not pass legislation for all legislators working as consultants to identify their clients?

With the perception of today's politician. We need new laws that show every single detail of every politician including identifying their clients.

South Tx law makers include Kino Flores, Aaron Pena, and Veronica Gonzales. Those are three names I would not want to associate myself with.

A Golden Parachute!

What is a golden parachute? A golden parachute is a clause in your contract stating that if a person were to get fired. They would have to pay that person a lump sum of money.

Do you have a golden parachute clause? It would be nice to get one considering how the economy is. Ramiro Garza, director of EDC has a six month parachute clause. That would mean, if Ramiro were to get fired by the city. The city of Edinburg would have to pay for six months of his salary after he's fired. Who decided to put this golden parachute into his contract? It was former mayor Richard Garcia.

We do have some news to report to you. Gus Garcia will not run for re election. He has his sites on running for congress. I don't think this is a good move on his part. Besides Edinburg! Who really knows him?

I would like to see Elias Longoria from Lone Star National Bank run in Gus'slot. He would make for one fine city council member.

Dist. Judge Juan Partida will have an opponent. And his name is Tony Canales. That should be a very interesting race.

A promise gone bad!

When Rene Guerra last ran for re election. During the run off between Alma Garza. Rene Guerra made a promise to the Palacios family. Help him get re elected and this will be the last time he would run for office. This would make it clear sailing for Terry Palacios to throw his sombrero into the ring. Well, looks like Rene Guerra has had a change of heart. He will be running once again for DA.

I would like to applaud Rene for basically lying to the P family. Way to go!

Our Economy!

What to do with this ugly economy! Let me see if I can answer that! The first thing to focus on are jobs, jobs and more jobs. The gov't can slash the home interest rates all they want. But if people don't have jobs, then people won't buy homes. Regardless of how well the interest rate is.

The first thing I would do is a foreclosure freeze. Then I would put all my resources in making jobs, jobs and more jobs. So, what's in it for the people that have done well paying there mortgages? Offer these people a way to refinance at a smaller interest rate. Say 4%. You got to have incentives for the people that have kept up with there mortgage payments.

As for the big three and this auto bailout? We just gave banks 350 billion dollars. Have the three auto companies apply for credit with these banks we gave that money to. I would also suggest that the big three start making all automobiles hybrid or plug in electric. End the days where we need gas!

As for the other 350 billion? Create jobs! Work on roads, bridges, anything to get the average American back to work. Every city in America needs a road or a bridge fixed. Well, what are you all waiting for? Let's put America back to work. And then you will end this negative economy.

Tx Teacher Retirement System Loses 25 Billion Dollars

AUSTIN—The Teacher Retirement System of Texas has seen about a $25 billion market value drop since Sept. 1 in the nation’s widening financial meltdown, making additional benefits next year for retirees appear unlikely.

Bill Harris, the system’s chief investment officer, said however that 275,000 retired teachers and beneficiaries covered by the fund shouldn't’t fear a change in current benefits.

A sad state of affairs in my neighboring county as several prominent public officials including Vice-President Dick Cheney are fighting indictments by the local prosecutor. Although I am not a big fan of the vice-president, this unfortunate situation can bring sympathy to the most unsympathetic figure. Unfortunately these are the indignities paid by public figures.

He used the word sympathy! Why do you feel bad about this? A grand jury indicted these people. Are you saying that the grand jury is incompetent? Or are you bias because your BOSS is defending one of the defendants?

Do you agree with criminal activity? Are you saying that Lucio and the others did nothing wrong?

Let the criminal justice system run it's course. And we shall see who is guilty and who is innocent. Why come to the defense of these people when you don't even know what the hell took place?

You got other serious problems! The Tx AG's office is now investigating Aaron Pena Jr. Which means they will start to open up other doors just to see what you have been up to. You now opened up a Pandora's box.

A group called "Empower Texans," chaired by Tim Dunn of Midland, an associate of Republican Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick, attacked Democratic state House candidate Joel Redmond of Pasadena with a direct mail piece featuring fuzzy images of black and Hispanic lawmakers (plus Barack Obama), several black birds resembling crows, and a picture of the white Redmund. The tag line: "Birds of a feather flock together."

Anyone with any racial sensitivity gets the meaning of the mailer: Redmond has betrayed whites by befriending people of color. He can't be trusted. This is happening in the Houston area, down the road from Tom DeLay. George Bush's hometown. While an African-American, Barack Obama, is the Democratic nominee for president.

Today's Race Boaters aren't like the Swift Boaters. They ARE the Swift Boaters. Bob Perry. Tom DeLay. Tom Craddick. A Willacy County grand jury under District Attorney Juan Angel Guerra returned multi-count indictments Monday against Vice President Dick Cheney, former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, plus several public officials.

The indictment accuses Cheney and Gonzales of engaging in organized criminal activity.

Also indicted are state District Judges Janet Leal, state District Judge Migdalia Lopez, State Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr., The GEO Group (formerly Wackenhut Corporation, former U.S. Attorney Mervyn Mosbacher, Gus Garza and Gilberto Lozano.

They all face a stream of criminal charges including abuse of office, profiting from office, and murder.

McALLEN, Texas — A South Texas grand jury has indicted Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on charges related to the alleged abuse of prisoners in Willacy County's federal detention centers.

The indictment criticizes Cheney's investment in the Vanguard Group, which holds interests in the private prison companies running the federal detention centers. It accuses Cheney of a conflict of interest and "at least misdemeanor assaults" on detainees by working through the prison companies.

Gonzales is accused of using his position while in office to stop an investigation into abuses at the federal detention centers.

AUSTIN — Call them Speaker Tom Craddick's greatest hits — or misses.

As the Midland Republican fights to hang on to the House's top job, his reign as speaker has already allowed him to sway key issues in a way that backers and detractors agree has shaped Texans' lives and the state's future.

They cite 2003 cuts to meet a budget shortfall, the shape of school funding and property tax relief, college-tuition deregulation, the design of congressional districts, abortion restrictions and even lawmakers' ability to proceed with bills that affect their local citizenry.

During one fight to put more money into classrooms and drive more property tax relief to middle- and lower-income homeowners, Rep. Scott Hochberg and other Democrats got enough support from Republicans to put that approach into a House bill. Craddick promptly presided over the bill's death.

“The House voted to take one approach, and as a result, the speaker killed the legislation,” said Hochberg of Houston, a speaker candidate. “Running his own agenda contrary to the House's agenda has been a problem on more than one occasion.”

Craddick's spokeswoman described the school property tax relief that resulted from the final education finance bill as “the largest property tax cut in state history...By reforming the franchise tax and lowering the property tax, the Legislature gave Texans a net tax cut, and avoided calls to raise taxes on Texans, which would have hurt our strong economy, which remains the envy of the nation.”

The Tx House of Representatives is almost all squared up.

The House GOP advantage, which stood at 81-69 two years ago, now stands at 76-74 after the Nov. 4 elections. And, depending on the outcome of a recount in a Dallas-area district where the Republican incumbent holds a 20-vote lead, the chamber could be split right down the middle.

A question to Aaron Pena. Will you continue to vote for your new daddy in Tom Craddick? Or will you vote for a Mexican-American in Pete Gallegos? If I was a betting lady and im not. I would bet that you will continue to vote for Craddick. Why? Because of all the money you get from the Republican Party.

FEDS Investigating Kino Flores

Travis County prosecutors, with assistance from federal agents, are investigating state Rep. Kino Flores, D-Palmview.

The investigation began into questions whether Flores illegally accepted a gift when he traveled at least three times between Austin and McAllen on a plane owned by the LaMantia family, who owns a Budweiser distributorship in South Texas and is developing a $23 million horse racetrack in Hidalgo County.

The investigation now has expanded into whether Flores charged the the state for some of the same trips, according to a source familiar with the investigation.

Flores is chairman of the House committee that oversees gambling legislation.

His attorney, Roy Minton of Austin, confirmed his client is under investigation.

“The district attorney’s office is investigating how Kino paid for his travel expenses, which I believe was a proper way for such expenses to be paid,” Minton said. He also said he was aware that an FBI agent had been asking questions.

Anyone that supports Craddick for Speaker should be investigated. Craddick and his friends give these guys lots of money in return for there votes. Which means nothing for the dist. they represent. The FEDS should investigate Aaron Pena.

Joe Ochoa To Bring Obama To The Valley

EDINBURG, November 7 - Edinburg Mayor Joe Ochoa says he plans to take a delegation of local leaders to Washington, D.C., to invite Barack Obama to visit the Rio Grande Valley.

Ochoa, who was one of the first elected officials in the Valley to endorse Obama for president, said he want to make sure that the Obama-Biden administration is well-educated on border issues.

A number of Valley business leaders have voiced concerns over Obama’s plans for NAFTA. On the campaign trail Obama said he would renegotiate NAFTA, which economists believe has helped strengthen and diversify the Valley economy.

“The best opportunity for the area would be to bring the president-elect to the Valley and see what NAFTA has done here,” Ochoa told the Guardian. “Obama still has much to learn about the region and issues on the border have to be handled in a delicate manner.”

Ochoa met Obama when the Illinois senator held a campaign rally at the University of Texas-Pan American in February. “Viva Obama… Obama Viva,” Ochoa sang, in a warm-up speech at the event.

Ochoa said he backed Obama for president even though there are some concerns that the next administration will take a more protectionist stance on trade. “We need change. Barack Obama gives us hope,” Ochoa said, at a South Texas Democrats for Obama-sponsored campaign event at The Social Club in Edinburg in September. Ochoa added that the Bush administration had driven the U.S. economy into the ditch.

Ochoa said he has no doubts the Obama-Biden administration can be educated on the importance of trade with Mexico and Latin America.

“It is so important that leaders from this community come together as soon as possible and try to set goals, and invite him (Obama) to this area and make sure he is well educated on border issues,” Ochoa said. “I think we need to look at this as a regional effort.”

Ochoa believes the Valley’s congressional delegation of Congressmen Solomon Ortiz, D-Corpus Christi, Rubén Hinojosa, D-Mercedes, and Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, can play a big role in reaching out and educating Obama and his Cabinet on what makes the fast-growing and dynamic Valley region tick.

"Our leaders in Congress, I feel all of them are very united and will be able to speak to president-elect Obama and educate him on some of the issues that are prevalent along the border,” Ochoa added.

The Valley voted overwhelmingly for Obama, despite the concerns of some about the candidate’s stance on NAFTA and despite the fact that Republican candidate John McCain comes from a border state, Arizona. Obama won 64.06 percent of the vote in Cameron County, 69.06 percent in Hidalgo County, 84.06 percent in Starr County, and 69.53 percent in Willacy.

The Monitor was the first one to break the news of plagiarism over at UTPA. But what surprises me is that the editor's wife is an employee over at UTPA. You would think that the paper would look out for her employee's boss! But leave it to The Monitor to screw everyone including Bambi Cardenas.

If you were Bambi Cardenas would you continue to have the editor's wife on UTPA payroll? When it was The Monitor that broke the story about allegations of plagiarism. Once The Monitor broke the story every other major newspaper in the state of texas picked up on it.

Another candidate that comes to mind is Ric Godinez when he ran for McAllen mayor a couple of years ago. He gave the paper thousands of dollars for ads. And the week before the election. The Monitor decided to screw him.

My question to you is this. If you were Bambi Cardenas what would you do with the editor's wife that is employed over at UTPA?

A look back at our local races!

One thing that came to mind is that no one reads The Monitor. You got to hand it to Carmen Gonzalez from changing her election from May to November. If her election was in May, she would have lost hands down. Congrats go out to corrupted Carmen.

I'm going to take some time off to get ready for the Edinburg's mayor's race. And also the Edinburg city council race. I look forward in doing battle with Richard Garcia and Noe Garza. I am really looking forward in attacking Noe's creditability. And this time the election will take place in May!

As I sit here and reflect about this presidential race. One thing comes to mind. When I was at one of our local cafes having coffee and talking to an 85 year old man. He was explaining how his budget was tight. But he did find a way to give $50.00every month to what he calls HOPE!

I really didn't understand what he meant by that. Until he told me that his HOPE payment every month was a monthly payment to Barack Obama's campaign. As I watch people on television waiting over 10 hours to cast there vote. I tell myself that this is more than just another presidential race. This is a movement!

You got young, old, black, white, Hispanic, democrats, republicans, independents coming together to elect this man. As your getting out of work tomorrow and your tired and just want to go home. But you have yet to cast your vote. Just think about the people waiting in lines over 10 hours long.

Local Races

From purchase orders, to NES, to police reports what a school board race. And I can honestly tell my viewers that I never lied about Carmen Gonzalez. With the little that I know about ECISD's finances I am a bit concern. There are way to many cracks in the system for taxpayer money to be spent foolishly. I still don't understand how NES got to be a secondary vendor to the district. Why no bidding process?

The bond committee is a complete joke. They hired a firm for $3.1 million dollars to over look the $112 million dollars the voters approved on the bond election. And they say that there going to save us money? Yeah right! Then I sit here and watch these people one by one go to the podium and say how they are up front with the taxpayers. That's a lie! Did you know that a firm was hired for $3.1 million dollars? Didn't think so! And if you did it's cause we have already discussed that in an earlier post.

I just think that Carmen and her bond committee is a complete joke. How can you be fair when your treasurer sits on the bond committee? You can't!

How can you justify that Carmen voted for her employer while on the board? You can't! How can you justify this family violence thing? You can't! How can you justify Gladdis Ortega getting this new bogus position that was created for her? You can't! Hell with over 20 applicants I told all of you that she was going to get the job before it was announced!

I am very concerned the way things are run over at ECISD!

As for Ciro Trevino and Carlos Ramos? Ciro hasn't done a thing on the campaign trail. And Carlos has been walking every single day talking to voters. This is a toss up! Can go either way!

As for the district judge's race? The only thing that is going to save Jesse Contreras is the democratic palanca lever.

Villalobos ran a terrible campaign against Veronica Gonzales. You got to give the voter a reason to elect you. Villalobos has not done that.

So to all United States taxpayers! Don't forget to vote!

I read a press release in which school board member Carmen Gonzalez said she had been brought up in poverty and she was happy to promote the school bond. Does she not know who pays these off?

Currently, Edinburg ISD is carrying a heavy debt of almost one-quarter BILLION dollars -- $221,402,611.00 (according to the Texas Bond Review Board, a state agency that tracks local government debt.) That is before the proposed $112 million bond initiative.

Let’s look at Edinburg ISD. According to the Texas Education Agency’s website, the school district’s staff are 53% NONTEACHERS – and only 47% are teachers. The average professional support staff salary is $55,628 and teachers make only $44,651. Less than half their revenue is spent on instruction and the academic rating is only academically acceptable, second from the bottom.

So, I would suggest to the Honorable Carmen Gonzalez and the other school board members…don’t bring out the pom-poms and cheer this deferred tax increase/bond election too eagerly.

You may intend to leave our children a bright future, but are really leaving them a legacy of debt.

What's that ole saying? When it rains it pours? Well, it's pouring on Carmen's campaign.

There is no way of getting around this. We have copies and copies of minutes where you voted for NES. And each offence is a class b misdemeanor. Now, will the local DA prosecute? NO! Why? Cause he is supporting Carmen!

Corruption in edinburg you got to wonder what the hell is going on. So what to do now that you know the DA won't touch it? You bug the hell out of the people up north. Someone is bound to hear you! TEA for starters! Once, TEA get a hold of this! It's all over!

The other million dollar question! How many other people over at administration knew about this and decided to turn the other way? There are lots of people who knew.

Win or lose this is not going away! A black cloud will follow you everywhere you go. So, I will ask you this! Was this all worth it?

The bond oversight committee thought it was wise to hire a managerial firm. This committee talks about ethics, conflicts of interest, and how they are very up front with the public. Here's a question! How much did this new managerial firm cost? Since none of the people on this committee are going to tell the edinburg taxpayer. I figure I would break the news!

They brought down this firm for $3.1 million dollars. That's right folks! Your paying 3.1 million dollars for a firm to take care of the 112 million. This committee talks about ethics! You can throw ethics right out the window. Bryant Morrison is on the committee and he happens to be Carmen's treasurer.

And these people that sit on this committee are so called educated? Maybe they forgot to take economics in school!

Carmen Gonzalez has promised the taxpayers of Edinburg that she would not get involved in any negative campaigning. Carmen has no choice but to invent names when she goes to put something in the newspapers. Yes people, the names that you see as for who paid for the ads are all names invented by Carmen.

You will begin to see Carmen's police report and mugshot in every valley newspaper this coming week. I find it surprising that Carmen would want to get negative knowning everything we have on her.

You will also begin to see a new ad about Carmen and her employer NES. We have our attorneys looking up the laws relating to this issue. And there are grounds for removal of office. How does this process work? Stay tune!

Remember, Carmen knows every law in the book when it comes to the school dist. She knew exactly what she was doing. We also know that her husband Ed Gonzalez is a member of South Texas I.S.D. We are now beginning to check to see if any purchases were made to NES. And if so? Did Ed vote for them!

TEA is coming! And a full fled investigation is followed. This thing is way bigger than Carmen Gonzalez. Ask yourself this question! How many other people knew about Carmen being employed by NES and work for the school dist? And decided to turn the other cheek!

Certain employees at administration are allowed to go to Sam's, Target & Walmart on "open P.O.'s" and purchase these and all sorts of other goodies for the staff at administration.

The goodies are anything and everything from soda's, cookies, candy, snack bars, oatmeal & cereal for breakfast, etc. All on taxpayer money.

In the meantime, our teachers have to go out and purchase their own supplies while administration says they cannot afford to give them teacher supplies.

We endorse Gilbert Enriguez for ECISD School Board! Carmen Gonzalez has been around education all of her life. She has even been superintendent for Edinburg. Which means she knows the rules and laws inside out. She knows exactly what she is doing by sitting on the board and voting for her employer. That is a CRIME! Not to mention the police report she got for beating up on her husband.

She has broken the law time and time again. Another thing to think about are the Palacios. With them it's not about me, you, my kids or yours! With over twenty applicants that have applied for this position. There is only one person that was made for this job. And Carmen and co made sure she was going to get this job. What Really Is Going On?

I have been getting hundreds of emails wanting some sort of explanation. People are asking why this NES doesn't go before the ECISD school board? They get to see other contracts go before the board. So, why not NES? Does NES even compete in the bidding process?

The answers! When the budget was passed. It also means that NES was passed. You see there is a primary vendor and then there are secondary vendors. All these PO's that you see are coming from the budget. Does NES compete in the bidding process? Answer is NO! Do we even know if NES was the lowest bid? We don't know cause this company doesn't compete in the bidding process.

The best way I can explain this is picture the school dist. passing the yearly budget. And in the budget there is around 3.5 million dollars to be used for educational materials. They will spend this money on there primary vendor. And if the primary vendor doesn't have it. Then they go to the secondary vendor. NES is the secondary vendor.

An example of this is ECISD Approved Vendors Go down to the I's and click on Instructional Materials. And there you will find NES

Now, the next question would be how do these companies get to be primary and secondary vendors? Good question! That is one question I can't answer. If you notice on all the PO's I have been showing you. Gladdis Ortega is the person requesting to order materials from NES.

A brand new position has been formed over at administration. The position is called director of ESL. And guess who was the one spearheading to open this new position? You guess it! Carmen Gonzalez! And guess who has already applied for this new position? You got it! Carmen's friend Gladdis Ortega! The ECISD is all about one word. It's called corruption!

Do you think Gilbert Garza knows that Carmen is employed by NES? And sits on the board and continues to vote for NES? Of course he does! Why doesn't he say anything? Carmen is Gilbert's boss! You don't question your boss. Or do you?

We would like to explain what all this is about. This is a purchase order! What does that mean?

A purchase order (PO) is a commercial document issued by a buyer to a seller, indicating the type, quantities and agreed prices for products or services the seller will provide to the buyer. Sending a PO to a supplier constitutes a legal offer to buy products or services.

Acceptance of a PO by a seller usually forms a once-off contract between the buyer and seller so no contract exists until the PO is accepted.[1] POs usually specify terms of payment, incoterms for liability and freight responsibility, and required delivery date.

A purchase order usually contains: PO number, shipping date, billing address, shipping address, terms of paymentand a list of services/products, often including specifications and reference or part numbers of the items to be purchased, with quantities and prices. When accepted by the seller, it forms an agreement between the buyer and seller.

It is basically a contract between buyer and seller. The buyer would be ECISD school dist. and the seller would be NES. So who is the sales rep for NES? Let me show you.

Call Your Local Congressman! I Think We Found A Solution!

A quick summary: Companies that had billions in subprime loans were feeling the effects of their stupid decision to make those loans in the first place, and practically gave them away for pennies on the dollar. But since no one wants these loans, and they've had to mark them down to market value, it has frozen the market. If we temporarily change the rule that forces companies to do that, that will free the market up.

Economist Wesberry is saying that if we change that one rule and don't force them to market down to market and just let them hold on to all the stuff, and say just on sub-primes for this period of time you can change that rule -- a temporary change -- that'll free the market up. It's seized right now; it's frozen. This will thaw it out and get it going again. He says that'll solve 60% of the problem ... and I think he's right.

That one accounting rule is what made Merrill Lynch sell out. That one accounting rule is what's driving other ones into the dirt. Would you rather let them change their accounting rule or loan them $700 billion for us to buyout their bad paper?

I don't like giving them any money or any help with my tax dollars. But I'd rather see that than see the whole thing turn completely upside down in a fruit basket turnover rather than have a whole meltdown or something and freak out here in the middle of the election season.

Why don't we just take the FHA insurance program and extend it across these sub-primes? What that means is that you and I are guaranteeing the lender that they're not going to lose as much or any money on those mortgages. Now I don't like guaranteeing them, but I like it better than buying them. In other words, instead of $700 billion in tax-payer debt going out there to bail out these companies, just extend the insurance out. You could probably do that for less than $40 billion. It's like a 95% savings!

If the government insured those mortgages, they would then be marketable. And could sell them. And the companies would stay afloat. And we, the people, don't have to get into the mortgage business. Now we're going to get in there a little bit because of the insurance on those getting foreclosed on.

But foreclosures aren't causing this. This is being caused because these companies are frozen and seized up. We've got to let some of the steam come off and put some oil in there to get this thing moving again. We can do that without going into debt $700 billion.

Call your Congressman. Call your Senator. Tell them to change the mark-to-market accounting law and to extend insurance but extend no loans. If they extend loans - if they borrow the money on the national debt in order for us to all go into the mortgage business a trillion dollars - you're going to fire their butts and send them home.

Freeman: Mortgage meltdown mess

EDINBURG, September 23 - Home foreclosures are averaging about 250,000 a month - one million families forced out of their homes in the past four months, around 2 million so far this year.

Government is busy bailing out mortgage companies - Bear Stearns, Freddie and Fannie, AIG - and pretty much leaving home owners to drown in Hurricane Mortgage. What? You’re shocked?

Aside from government, for at least the past 28 years, favoring business and the rich over the people, exactly how did we get into this mess? Thanks to the July/August edition of Mother Jones magazine, we have a concise timeline which is summarized below.

We must begin in 1933 with passage of the Glass-Steagall Act that served as the foundation of most subsequent banking regulations, and which was systematically dismantled and ultimately repealed in 1999 by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. Texas Senator Phil Gramm, who co-authored legislation that made the mortgage meltdown inevitable, was and remains a close economic advisor of John McCain. McCain, who describes himself as “fundamentally a deregulator”, strongly supported Gramm’s deregulation legislation. But I get ahead of myself.

Glass-Steagall established a compact between the federal government and a banking industry that had begun to collapse in January, 1933. To restore faith in bankers who, in many instances, had absconded with depositors’ money, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation was established to insure all deposits up to an established maximum - $5,000 in 1933, $100,000 today, $250,000 for IRA’s. In return, investment banks and commercial deposit banks were separated to eliminate the conflicts of interest that resulted in bad loans and to curb speculation; and banks submitted to federal regulations.

If a bank subject to federal regulation failed, the federal government would cover deposits up to the established limit. Banks, backed by the government, regained public confidence. That compact worked well until greed and corrupt politicians voided half of Glass-Steagall (banking regulation) while leaving the other half (federal bailout) in place - a sweetheart deal for the financial industry.

One would think the nation had learned from how deregulation in the early 1980’s precipitated the Savings and Loan meltdown. Obviously Phil Gramm (who allegedly has a Doctorate in Economics) did not. Or was he just another corrupt politician driven by craven desire to feed the greed of blood sucking, amoral corporate capitalistic scum? Then President George H.W. Bush bailed out the Savings and Loan companies, at a cost of $126 billion to U.S. taxpayers. Beneficiaries included the shady S&L dealings of his sons Neil and Jeb.

Dismantling Glass-Steagall began in the Nixon administration with the Bank Holding Company Act allowing commercial banks both to accept deposits and make commercial loans through holding companies - one bank owning all or a majority of stock in other banks.

In 1980, with high inflation, Senator Jake Garn, R-Utah, authored legislation eliminating usury caps on interest rates banks can charge. Welcome to credit card interest rates of 28 percent, or more. This was followed in 1982 by Garn’s bill deregulating Savings and Loan companies.

In 1987, Senator John McCain became one of the “Keating 5” as he helped lobby to protect Charles Keating from investigation of Lincoln Savings and Loan. Keating, a major McCain campaign contributor, flew McCain around the country in his personal jet, including all expense paid vacations. So much for McCain’s vaunted ethics.

Newt Gingrich’s 1995 “Contract with (on?) America” included a law making it more difficult to sue companies for securities fraud, opening the door for, uh, securities fraud. This was followed by the 1998 merger of CitiCorp and Travelers Insurance, still illegal under Glass-Steagall but permitted by Bushite regulators with a wink and a nod.

The clincher came in 1999 with Gramm’s legislation completely repealing Glass-Steagall. Anyone who knew anything about U.S. banking history - the 1933 crash, the S&L crash - knew and predicted basically what would follow. It was not a question of “whether” but of “when.” Warning flags went up as early as June, 2000 when the Treasury Department and the Department of Housing and Urban Development asked Greenspan’s Federal Reserve to investigate sub-prime lending. But Greenspan was too busy posturing as an economic genius to pay attention to a real economic problem.

That December (2000), Gramm added to the injury by slipping a 262 page amendment into an appropriations bill to deregulate derivatives trading, enabling the ENRON scandal. No one would accuse “Honest Phil” of a conflict of interest given his wife sat on ENRON’s board of directors, and profited handsomely (something over $1 million). Gramm subsequently left the Senate to jump on the gravy train as a highly paid lobbyist for the Swiss Bank UBS, which had bought the Paine Webber investment house, thanks to deregulation legislation written by Gramm and strongly supported by John McCain.

Though talk is muted now, Phil Gramm has been widely considered as the most likely Secretary of the Treasury in a McCain administration. Given the damage Gramm did to the American economy as a Senator, one only can imagine the devastation he will produce as Treasury Secretary. I have no doubt about John McCain’s campaign pledge to “shake things up” - like a 10.0 earthquake. That kind of shakeup we do not need.

Apologists for the financial industry have fallen all over themselves to minimize the worst financial disaster since the 1933 banking collapse. CNBC financial “guru” (read “idiot”), Jack Cramer said in July, 2007 the sub-prime “lending thing” was “completely meaningless… It has no relevance whatsoever.” Tell that to the millions of families forced from their homes over the past year, and the millions more staring foreclosure and eviction in the face. Did I say “idiot”?

Even as Lehman Brothers collapsed, idiot apologists for corporate capitalists were saying no one could have anticipated these collapses. Why do these idiots get air time on national news programs instead of people who actually know something about economics, and who both predicted and can explain why our financial institutions are collapsing? Rhetorical question; answer should be obvious.

What is the Bush/McCain/financial institutions solution? First Step: Consolidation. JPMorgan-Chase took over Bear Stearns; Bank of America acquired Countrywide, MBNA and now Merrill Lynch. Consolidation into three monopolistic financial giants - Bank of America, JPMorgan-Chase, and CitiCorp absolutely - is NOT the way to go. Second Step: $700 billion bailout with no oversight and no accountability.

Our economy, according to 82-year-old Alan Greenspan, is the worst he has seen in his lifetime. Yet, on the day the stock market lost over 500 points, President Bush asserted U.S. financial institutions are “flexible and resilient.” John McCain proclaimed “the fundamentals of our economy are strong.” In what parallel universe?

On the campaign trail after the collapse of Lehman Brothers, McCain tried to distance himself from the stench of the Bush administration. But McCain needs to distance himself from the stench of John McCain. What we need is not more Gramm-McCain economics, but to repeal ALL of Gramm’s legislation, reinstate Glass-Steagall, and modernize banking regulations to counter all of the new financial gimmickry invented since banking regulations from 1933 through the 1960s - something John McCain is not willing to do.
